Several more were seriously injured when a truck lost control and barreled into the crowd. Witnesses are saying that were it not for Andrew Therrien, 22, who pushed others out of the way and lost his life in the process, even more would have died, including his girlfriend and 3-year-old daughter. The accident took place in the Mojave Desert. At the popular race, spectators are urged to stand back from the track for their own safety. However, many fans sneak forward to catch a better glimpse as the four-wheel-drive racers zoom by. That curiosity proved tragic for Mr. Therrien and several others.
