I've been home sick this week, so I watched Remembrance Day ceremonies from Ottawa on television today. Prince Charles is touring Canada with his wife Camilla, so they participated in the national ceremony. Apart from his own military record, Charles is the honourary commander of some seven Canadian regiments and chose to wear a Canadian military uniform. In deference to Canadian military personnel, he saluted Canadian style, with a slanted hand, rather than palm out. Canada's Governor General Michaelle Jean also appeared in Canadian military uniform, which is her right, as the official commander in chief. Many of her male predecessors have been veterans and have worn their regimental uniforms to such functions. I believe she is the first female GG to appear in uniform, a nice gesture of support to the troops and vets.

I haven't gotten a hug (yet) but a buddy of mine did come by and treat me to lunch which was very nice. I prefered the lunch to a hug in that case... lol
