Getting punched for fun

Hello all! I've been working Systema alone for a while due to location, and then moved to where I have a once a month training partner. We go at it for an hour and a half or so, specifically slow sparring and things that you need a training partner for. Getting seriously punched wasn't in many of the other martial arts I've been in, but Systema is helping me relax and leave class with more energy than when I started. Enjoying the heck out of it!

Never heard of Systema before. I'm assuming it's a hardstyle if you are doing lots of strikes. I train in Kenpo and we spar fairly often. I think sparring or having an uke is the best way to train. The air fighting helps with building muscle memory but seeing how it all works really helps it make sense. Glad you are enjoying your system!

Systema is different that the other arts I've trained in, but not so different that lessons learned elsewhere no longer apply. For punching, we go slow (and have to slow ourselves down as we get into it ;) ) but punch hard so that both of us are training. One to punch, the other to take a punch using flexibility and breathing. For Systema punches, the wrist is tightly locked at the moment of impact but the elbow and shoulder should be loose. I'm still working on that bit. The looseness allows a much faster recovery/second/third strike and avoids sending the shock of impact back into the puncher.

Being a practiioner of Internal Chinese Martial Arts, I read this book several years ago, it was an intersting read

Also a few years back there were a couple Systema practitioners on MT
