fast and hard. If you train it long enough and with the right mindset, you'll recieve the "ephiphany" behind the technique. It's all about hip rotation and the kinetic chain that allows a strike with alot of power. All of the swing (or centrifugal power if you like physics) ends with the fist. Hard. Also making sure that your anatomical centre of gravity stays on the same height helps. So a horizontal line.
The more you train, the more your muscle programs will be engrained, from then on you can focus on speed.

Still my sensei is faster than me. :uhyeah:
