The new generation of body scanners employed at airports (and many other places) can record detailed, anatomically revealing pictures of each person scanned, which is one reason they've raised the hackles of privacy advocates as well as ordinary travelers. Now, AHuxley writes "The US Transportation Security Administration claimed last summer that 'scanned images cannot be stored or recorded.' It turns out that some police agencies are storing the controversial images. The US Marshals Service admitted that it had saved ~35,314 images recorded with a millimeter wave system at the security checkpoint of a single Florida courthouse. The images were stored on a Brijot Gen2 machine. The Electronic Privacy Information Center, an advocacy group, has filed a lawsuit asking a federal judge to grant an immediate injunction to stop the TSA's body scanning program."

ok, I can opt out at the airport.

What about if I'm called into court? I mean, I know cops, laywers, and the janitors GF can come and go as they please around the scanners, but what about folks who aren't "connected"? If I refuse to be scanned, am I then arrested and forced through? What are our options in the non-airport installations?

Pat downs probably, in various states of unpleasantness, ranging from the quick pat down to the bend-over-and-cough treatment.

Well, I always eat spicy food before court dates so that cough might eat their hand off. :D

"No, baby, that camera's not on. It's just still set up from when I was doing card tricks earlier."

Nobody is surprised by this, are they?

Say Bob,

You know those camera film wraps they make to keep 35mm film from being exposed to radiation? Like a Domke Filmguard Bag or a Hakuba X-Ray Safety Case?

Well I wonder if you made some underwear out of it what would happen at the airport scanner?

And if they give you a hassle, how about going to one of those sex shops and getting a, uh, fake you-know-what, and gluing it onto the filmguard bag.

That way, the privates they see aren't the real privates.

Might even give them a real trip by gluing female, uhem, instead of male and see the reaction on their faces.

Its not just the "privates", IMO...although men are shown in (ahem) more detail than women. Its showing every countour of the body. There's already been jokes going around Boston. How can you tell how hot your gf is? By the number of heads that are gathered around the monitoring screen. "Dude, I'm datin' a 4-header" :duh: It would be funnier if it wasn't true. ;)

;) Wanna see how close to the truth you are?

Consider this....the very first body imaging scanner was deployed in Orlando airport -- an airport with a disproportionately high number of child passengers due to its proximity to Disney World.

Still feel a bit bad for the TSA employees. I mean, for every "4-header" that walks through, there's bound to be a half-dozen Fat Bastards coming through the line yelling "Check this sexay boday!" :boing1:

Oh and as for the recording, was anyone really surprised? That's why we have privacy advocacy groups.
