Britain's First Jedi Member of Parliament
Wednesday June 29, @06:22AM

from the sad-funny-or-just-bizarre dept.
earthlingpink writes "In his maiden speech to the House of Commons, the Hon. Member for Copeland, Jamie Reed MP, announced that he is a Jedi: "as the first Jedi Member of this place, I look forward to the protection under the law that will be provided to me by the Bill" (the quotation is a fair way down the page; search for 'Jedi,' not surprisingly). How long before we have a Congressional equivalent?"

Let's start a pool to see how long it takes him to turn to the dark side:rofl:

Well, the Italians had a porn star, and the U.K. has a Jedi...but I still say that for kooky legislators, the USA is Number One!

(For starters, there's Sen. Byrd, former Ku Klux Klan Grand Dragon or some such...)

We have sex offendors and ex-drug users for our leaders as well, someone believing in an "All powerful Force, that guides the Universe" as Han Solo put it, is easier for me to handle.

Just my thoughts on that subject.

In Finnish parlament we have a man who is former pro Boxer (Former super heavy wight Finnish champion), UFC fighter (one loss) and WWE wrestler Tony "The Viking" Halme (in WWE he was called Ludvig Borga).

We also have some singers actors and athletes in our parlament. One of Finnish representives in European parlament is former raally driver (Ari "Milk man" Vatanen).

politicians are real human people, and in case nobody has gotten it yet, people do make mistakes...even the one's we've all elected to office :ultracool .

Marvellous!

For a small and insignificant island I think we still do a sterling job supplying the world with first class nut-jobs, and Hollywood with some of the finest screen villains that cinema has ever known! Makes me proud to be British!

Oddly enough not a huge amount of publicity over here for The Right Hon. Mr. Reed (MP Copeland), the Force isn't strong in that one... :jedi1:

We ought to bring balance to the Force though, can't wait to cast my vote for the Right Hon. Christopher Lee, Dark Lord of the Sith and prospective Member of Parliament for Hammersmith and Fulham!

The bloke that played Darth Sidious would make a pretty good Prime Minister too! Doesn't quite have the cheesey grin of the current PM, but he has a great hoody (recently banned from being worn in shopping centres in the UK...), a quality line in dodgy underhand diplomacy, and the lousy ethics and unlimited ambition needed to rebuild the Galactic (British) Empire...
:jediduel:

Too bad trhe changes to the House of Lords mean that Lord Haden-Guest can't take his hereditary spot! His popularity would go to 11 (that's one more than 10).

I guess Nigel will have to settle for being "big in Japan".
