BJJer nominated for Oscar and Bafta Awards

That was a complex movie for the sound guys. Most musicals are dubbed after the fact, and it shows. That they could get quality sound on a live set is remarkable.

I have my fingers crossed he wins, he's a lovely guy as well as being brainy and good at BJJ (I could hate him though lol), perhaps though it's true that you are what you practice, so if you practice being good it works!

" Simon Hayes, Production Sound Mixer, LES MISERABLES – I am extremely grateful to the Academy for considering our work on Les Miserables worthy of a nomination for this award. I would like to thank our tremendous cast for trusting me with their fantastic live vocal performances. I would also like to thank Tom Hooper for his encouragement and support and the whole Les Miserables film crew for their collaboration, professionalism and skill."

One of the MMA fighters at London Shoot, who himself works in films on special effects stuff ( X Men etc) has posted all over as he knows Simon won't.

Good luck to him. I hope he wins. IIRC, the technical oscars are awarded prior to the live telecast of the main awards ceremony. Hope he gets some good news!

In a much smaller way, I've dealt with the dillemma of trying to get quality audio on location. It can really suck if you don't have control over things most people don't even think about. Forget about airplanes and random noises like that. I'm talking white noises you don't even notice in real life that come through over a mic, like HVAC fans, elevator noises and such. Getting clean, noise free audio for training videos using high quality lavs is enough of a pain for me. I can't imagine trying to get clear, usable audio from directional mics on a set where the microphones have to remain hidden, off camera.

I'm an Oscar freak. Watched 54 Oscar broadcasts in a row. I shall root my butt off for this guy!
