so, sitting at home after class, channell surfing...and there it is WCL. Having watched it on several ocassions, I have noticed there are some pretty salty fighters-good technique. I am sure this subject may have already gotten some attention. I think its good for spectators-kinda flashy
If you like it why? If you dislike it, why?

For pure striking technique under pressure I find it interesting. No rest, no corner man, no running out the clock.

Much better than the old AKA stuff where they would flick out one kick, punch a few punches, and not really do much. They had rules on how many punches .vs. kicks you had to throw. WCL does not have such rules.

It does not show much in tactics, considering they expect no let up from either side, but just techniques. That's ok.

One thing I'd like to see, dissimmular combat. That is, no weight or hight classification. Might be tough on the little guy, but I bet that little guy will be fast, like it or not.

I don't like some of the rules. Such as no clinch fighting, and no disengaging to re-engage at a different angle and no takedowns.

I understand their reasoning (making the fights more exciting, and less stalling), but I always preferred to see good clinch work as well as punching and kicking. Someone with good clinch skills can make the fight exciting and end it quickly with it, as well as nullify a better long range fighter.

I can understand no groundfighting as they don't want to just be an MMA offshoot, but no grappling at all (clinch work or throws) makes it essentially american rules kickboxing without the rounds and the mandatory kick rule and the strategy.

I think they are not allowing the clinching and take downs not only to not be a offshoot of MMA , but lets face it, most people want to see standup and Knockouts. It gets more ratings. Not to mention i personally find it boring to watch 2 guys rolling around on the ground for a 5 minute round doing nothing but huffing and puffing. yes there are some good ground fights and ground n pound , but alot of it is boring.

I could not agree more. Sorry, but watching ground fighting is boring, more boring than golf, and almost as boring as watching a chess match. And there is a reason Chess isnt televised

and as my GF used to say when i would flip though channels and land on Ultimate FIghter, "why dont you just watch gay porn, this is just two pairs of shorts away from it......"

I like the WCL, it is a great idea, the matches are exciting, and the fighters are usually pretty good

gee, you're offended, I am sorry. I am expressing my personal opinion, and that is that ground fighting is boring to watch.

sure, to fans of the sport it isnt boring. To fans of chess, watching chess isnt boring. to most people it is.

I imagine to lots of people, watching ground fighting is boring as sin.

if that offends you, maybe you are looking to get offended

You don't have to like someone's art but you also don't have to put others off from trying it. High school/college wrestling fans as well as Judoka and Japanese Juijitsu practicioners don't deserve to be told they look like gay porn stars! I doubt they'll have a problem with being told their art is boring, that's just an opinion, I know people who find stand up boring.
Groundwork may look like a lot of things but not gay porn I promise you, either that or you are watching way the wrong type of porn!

they dont wear speedo's either, MMA types do. Case closed.

your opinion, i wont try to change yours, please stop trying to change mine. You are very, VERY defensive about MMA, I have mentioned this in the past. It is still true.

Have a nice day

Can't we all just get along. I do find that statement funny , as well, but i do agree that maybe tone it down a hair :) It only looks like that thoguh when the guys aren't donig anything on the ground. It happens alot sadly with the lesser experienced fighters. Then it just looks wrong :p If ground fighting is done right then it is a sight to behold and impressive. To alot of people though if you see two guys rollnig around all sweating, and just mounting each other, not doing any kind of locks, or break position , or any striking it makes you think twice. Just don't be so sensitive Tez. People are entitled to their opinion. Its the whole free speech thing. It is also not a personal attack , so don't take it personally.

Try watching International Fight League. It's pretty good. I like it better than UFC. It comes on at mid-night (eastern stand. time) on Saturdays on FSN (fun sport network). They have some really good fighters. They do have take downs and such but it seems like they fight standing up more.

The IFL is officially gone now. They declared bankruptcy and the fighters are all leaving.

Personally, I would disagree about a lot of ground fights being boring if both fighters are actively trying to end the fight (ground and pound are the most boring to me). To each their own.

I can understand the lack of groundfighting as a lot of people see it as boring. Clinchwork though can be extremely exciting if you allow knees, elbows and throws. The potential for KO's gets higher and most throws can be highlight real material. Espeically if yo uhave someone who knows how to fight in the clinch and throw.

What they WCL has done is create a set of rules that favor point fighting karate stylists, which is cool that they have a venue to fight in that allows more contact, but I'd rather watch a good Muay Thai or San shou match or see them allow clinch work and throws.

I like WCL. It's basically the full-contact karate of this millenium. I enjoyed watching some of the 1st year's fighters. I judged a lot of them as amateur fighter. (Stephen Thompson, Dan Erickson to name two).
