If there isn't a "changing of the guard" when I start, there will be as soon as they can hire enough engineers to fill out the coverage. I've been told that eventually, the off-hours shifts will expand to 2 people per shift, as need commands...but I have no prediction as to when that will be.

I didn't even think about the shrubbery. The parking lot is wide open. There is some greenery surrounding it, but if someone were hiding in the greens, they would have to come out across a wide open parking lot to get to me.

I would not support the bleach idea either. Legalities aside, the caustic nature of the bleach could easily eat away at the softer parts of the squirt gun and make a huge mess out of one's car or bag. I like the body spray idea though...I like that alot.

A few questions about the police...if anyone can share input.

I'll be working in another state (which is not as dramatic as it sounds as the states are very small up here). Legend says out-of-state plates may be more likely to pulled over. I'm OK with that, but would like a bit of knowledge.

Given what was said (about calling 911 and verifying that the person behind me is a bona-fide policeman)...legally, how cool is this to do? If I'm (say) speeding, I'd hate to get myself in to more trouble because the officer thinks I'm escaping him/her.

What do you think about asking my manager to alert the local police department to the company's change to 24x7x365 operation? I'd hate to rouse any suspicion as to why a vehicle with Mass plates is parked at an empty office building at 10 PM Sunday night.

Is it copasetic to call 911 for uninvited guests in the parking lot...of the four-legged variety? If there's a loose dog out in the lot at 1AM...or a pack of raccoons taking shelter hanging out near my car...that's just not something I want to tangle with alone.

I hope I'm not driving you all nuts with my questions. Believe me, I really appreciate it all of your help.

You might entertain a serious discussion on the security requirements for this position with your supervisor and management.

Ah! Good qvestion. I live near the border between Washington and Oregon and we get this all the time. Yes, you are certainly more likely to be watched in the other state than you would be in your own. So you'll be wanting to check EVERYTHING on your car - your license plate light, your tail lights, your brake lights ... all lights certainly ... and if you get pulled over for a fix-it situation out-of-state, ask the officer "what else do I need to do to be 100% legal?" This might get you out of a ticket as well as be informative. Make sure all your paperwork is up to snuff as well. Here, they pull drivers over to check their license and home address to see if Washingtonians are registering their cars in cheaper Oregon.

My teacher's wife (also a bb) works for a local police department and swears by this and says it would be well worth the trouble to be on the safe side. You ARE allowed to do this by law here - I would verify in local precincts where you live and where you work. One thing that can help in this situation is to turn your blinkers on and drive no faster than the speed limit, stay in well-lit areas and drive towards a police station while you verify with 911.

Excellent suggestion and it should absolutely be done.

I would check with the local precinct about that - some small towns mind, others don't ....

You're not driving me nuts - actually you've come up with excellent questions that I hope has made us all think - made me think, certainly.

Please keep us up-to-date on this. And do you mind if I PM you on this issue?

PMs are most certainly welcome. The next couple of days for me are going to be maddeningly busy...if you do not hear back from me right away...it's nothing personal.

No problem, Lady K.

Just for clarification on my previous post, when I mention driving with the blinkers on, I meant if you find yourself followed by blinking lights. If there's any question in your mind, turn your blinkers on, merge to the slow lane and maintain a safe speed while you verify that you are being pulled over by a bona fide LEO.

Cheers.

Totally understood. I did read it wrong the first time.

Blinkers on + Mass plates + driving slowly = a bona-fide way to get pulled over by a LEO, perhaps

Just be aware and have a cell phone around. Also, keep about 50 bucks on you as if you get mugged or held up...50 bucks will usually allow someone to feel good and walk away rather than pushing you for more.

Just keep aware and present in the moment. Pretty much all you can do in the world of chaos theory that is Earth.

Hello, Most police departments will send an officer to escort you out of the building if you feel (instincts) something isn't right, especially at night. Try not to this too often..because of "crying wolf"!

They rather be there to help you...than finding a victim! Do not call 911! Get the police dispatch number/numbers for your area. Don't be embarrass by this....the police want to help, most times.

Be nice...and thank them.....READ the book " The Gift of Fear"....Aloha
