Kancamagus was the third (and final) Sagamon (chief) of the Penacook tribe. His name means "The Fearless One", and he was said to be a very brave warrior in battle. The highest (non-seasonal) roadway in New Hampshire bears his name, with much of the road going through the White Mountain National Forest. I took these photos on the Kancamagus Highway, in an unusual, but not unheard of, mid-April snowstorm.

This was taken at a unplowed vista near the Kancamagus Pass, the highest spot on the roadway. The snow was almost up to my knees!

Naturally I had to get a cascade in the mix, too :)

Behind this section of trees are several mountains...mountains obscured by the snow, fog, and clouds.

Great pictures! I really like the contrast in the last one. What lens were you using there?

Such wonderful scenes. A mix of two of my favourite things, trees and snow :D. All that is needed are my other favourite things (some girls, some wine and some music) and I'm set .

You know, provided I have the other things Sukerin, I can actually go without the snow.... and the trees.... don't really need the wine either (I don't drink. But if the girls would prefer, I'm not about to deny them!).

I do quite like these shots, though. Especially the last one, for some reason. Very nice.

Lens is the 58mm that is stock on the Canon D50. :)

28mm length, 100 ISO, F11, 1/160 sec, 0EV, no flash.

Thanks for enjoying them!

It would not be as much fun if I could not share the images, for better or worse. :)

The last photo has a unique presence to it, possibly because this is a shot that I could only take during times of snow or heavy fog.

Here is the same vantage point, 24 hours later. Note how the snow has fallen off the trees, the nearest mountain is now visible, and neighboring peaks in the range are starting to come in to view.

Very different scene, isn't it?
