Hey guys, I'm a first dan Kickboxer. Ever since I imagined myself training in martial art, I saw Aikido as the biggest influence. Instead, I practiced what came naturally; kicks, elbows, (etc.) and became quite strong. I'm glad I didn't jump into Aikido right away since I think a base in some kind of "Hard" Martial Art could alter my Aikido in useful ways. Like I said, I'm a first dan Kickboxer but I never received this title from a Shihan or Sensei. I mostly practiced on my own and in many informal settings with qualified teachers. A lot of the teachings i received were from the internet.
I say I'm a first dan because I can slip strikes, I have power and technique in my strikes and I shaped (and broke) my hands many times. I'm not afraid of fighting and my hands are ready for contact.
Knowing this, I still never EVER fight!!! EVER. You know, sometimes guys are drunk, going nuts downtown because of some girl. They look me right in the eye and they don't fight me. Usually we become friends. I'm blessed with the ability to avoid conflict or simmer it down when needed. Someone told me Capricorns are old when they're young and young when they're old!!!!!! Take that however you want.
I'm really serious about martial art. The three styles I enjoy the most and/or I see as the most effective: English Boxing, Judo, Aikido & Iaido. I adore these three styles and my goal at this point would be to start off with "formal" Boxing courses along with Judo and reach a level where I would feel comfortable enough to begin serious Aikido & Iaido training at my city's world class Dojo; Mountain Dojo.
My goal in English Boxing would be one or two golden glove awards, and for Judo I would be happy with simply feeling very comfortable flying around in any direction and meeting the ground with poise and accuracy.
Then, only then, would I commence Aikido training full-time.
