Yesterday the head sensei conducted class again. He does this every month.
The training focused mainly on variation of the basic kihon. I.e one step and 2 step partner drill. The attacker punches one or two times, and the defender blocks / gets out of the way and counters.
The pace of the session was good. It was a real workout, though I had the advantage of being in passable shape so it was not too bad. Sadly, the hour and a half flew by much too quickly. Of course, this is a good sign
I have to admit that I was secretly pretty happy with my Ichimonji-no-kamae. It no longer felt unnatural to be in that position, and I no longer felt unbalanced. I practised many hours last week on that kamae and the basic kihon, so I am glad that it pays off.
Even evading and changing position from that kamae is starting to feel natural, rather than forced. I'll have to practise some more to make it better of course. Another 500 hours or so should do the trick
