FIRST THERE WAS THIS.

Fri Mar 30, 2007
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration on Friday condemned plans by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to visit Syria and possibly meet its president, who the United States has accused of helping destabilize the region.

"We don't think it's a good idea," said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. "This is a country that is a state sponsor of terror, one that is trying to disrupt the Siniora government in Lebanon and one that is allowing foreign fighters to flow into Iraq from its borders."

AND NOW...

SHARM EL SHEIK, Egypt, May 3 — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met today with Syria’s foreign minister, Walid al-Moallem, the first diplomatic contact at such a high level between the two countries in at least two years.

Ms. Rice and Mr. Moallem, who are taking part in a two-day international conference here seeking to bring stability to Iraq, met for thirty minutes. Speaking to reporters afterward, Mr. Moallem said they discussed issues surrounding the Syria-Iraq border and “bilateral relations” between the United States and Syria.

It's almost as if politicians just can't help squabbling and lying for more than two minutes at a time.

Maybe that's why they never get anything constructive done (other than lining their pockets that is)?
