Kung Fu is normally just used for CMA (Chinese MArtial ARts) there is no real "default" art its normally refering to. Mantis is actually a pretty well known system, probably behind Wing Chun, or the myriad of "Shaolin" "Systems".

For the general public? I'd say wushu as that is what we go to the movies to see :D
Yeah, although I would disagree that "the movies" as a whole are showing wushu at large. Plus...can any of us define "wushu"? Wouldn't it litterally be defined as Kung Fu?

Wushu is the closest system too what is used in movies, while it doesn't conform to the "rules" of wushu, that's what it's gonna look like to the untrained eye ;)

Kung fu = Jackie Chan and Jet Li style fighting.
