What an interesting day....

:D

Just remember that, especially in a democracy, resistance is not futile.

It is important to give the new fellow a chance tho' I think. Who knows what direction he might take you chaps in?

I know that some of you don't think that your previous encumbant was in the wrong but, from my point of view at least, it would be hard for anyone to do a worse (better?) job of destabalising the political and economic climate of the world.

Indeed, to me, it almost smacks of a conspiracy-theory-like 'set-up' to get people to agree to stronger oversight of their individual actions and those of the economy because things have gotten into such a mess. A 'softer' touch after the harshness of the past eight years but still nontheless leading to a more cohessively controlled state.

It's hardly a softer touch.....Bush was leading the country in the same direction, more slowly......Obama is full steam ahead toward socialism!

Domestically, there was little difference between Bush and most in the Democratic party......9/11 and his response is what you folks see, and that was thrust upon him.......Domestically he took a lessor view in the same direction as this clown!

I hardly plan on giving this clown a chance, as I know EXACTLY where he wants to lead us.....I hope he FAILS UTTERLY to achieve his agenda of socialism.....and I hope he takes the ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY down with him (and the Republicans too for all I care)

We need a NEW day in Washington.......a day of smaller government, and an END OF PLEDGES OF FEALTY to PRESIDENTS BY PRIVATE CITIZENS!

My goal is for Obama to have 4 LONG FRUSTRATED YEARS and an end like Jimmy Carter......UTTER AND TOTAL DEFEAT! Preferably at the hands of a 3rd Party Candidate (I know, a dream!).

It is true that the self-styled War on Terror does colour a lot of world opinion and it is also so that, not living in the country, we auslanders don't get the same view of the Republican's domestic policies.

To us, you see, what has been happening in America, whilst Bush was on the throne, looks like creeping totalitarian corporatism (the Mega-Corps of Traveller fame). Socialism is something else entirely - the membership here has had this sort of discourse (on the 'meanings' of political ideologies) before, I'm sure.

I think what you're describing and (with cause) do not want to happen is a switch from one form of totalitarianism to another i.e. corporate oligarchy to communism.

And, while the Bush administration was HARDLY a corporate oligarchy (despite 'the sky is falling' comments from the left), Obama's administration seems to be a RESPONSE to that perception, by creating an increasingly socialist massive growing government bureaucracy.

Either direction is entirely un-American, and should be fought tooth and nail.....and, despite the WORLD trumpeting Obama's horn......YOU folks really don't want America heading in that direction either.......the man is a MENACE!
