hello ,i my long search for a good martial art school in my area,i have found a a good wing chun kung fu,Yip Man style school. The style includes not only hands strikes but knees ,elbows,
joint locks, among other things.I have been told by more than a few people the instructor is excellent and goes to china alot to train.I am looking for a simple, effective form of real self defence.
I will be going to watch a class this week and see if it a fit for me.Anyone got any ideas on what to watch for?
thanks,
james

Good luck! This is a good system. You can't expect to be shown too much on day one if you're training but if you're watching and you can see the more senior students working out then I'd look for adequate partner practice at a decent speed, for one thing, and a focus on training rather than small-talk.

I would second that. Focus on training and absorbing everything that you can. It takes time to learn.
