This actually took place last summer. It was done solely for Chinese television. One of the instructors from the chain of schools i used to attend was one of the semi finalists i believe, but I can't remember if he made the finals or not. It is being done to spread the word of Shaolin according to the monk The movies will be sort of in the vein of the kung fu series telling the story of some one who starts as a young man at temple then goes out on his own. That was my understanding although i could be wrong.
