My Senators and Rep are lock-step Dems. They voted for the bailouts, they are 100% behind supporting the Dem bill, and when I get a reply (which is rarely) it's a form letter telling my how great my *** will feel when this is jammed up it.

I would, but only in favor of tossing out the plan, nuking anything the Republicans want, and ramming a single payer system down the country's throat.

I sent another letter in to my non-representing representatives. I expect a form letter completely ignoring my concerns by Higgins, and no reply from either of my "Senators".

And I hope they get tarred and feathered if they do. That's not a metaphor - I hope that they are held down and have boiling pitch poured over their naked bodies.

Shove this down our throats, and the "Democratic" party is over.

Nixon tried it. (Something about whites not wanting to share their hospitals with minorities shut it down rather than fears of communism though.)

Regardless, if you generate a 2000 page bill that people don't bother to read and automatically hate all in the name of bi-partisanship only to have the coalition break down because one side was completely insincere, they might as well sack up and force something worthwhile through while they have the votes.

Something is going to change, and it is going to happen soon. Medicare is broken and the aging population is going to force some sort of bill. As a future doctor I find it appalling that this has become political and not empirical.

I've read the bill, most of it. Well, one of the versions, not the one the Senate passed, and not the full text of the different Obama bill.

Wait....House passed 1 bill. Senate passed a similar but different bill. Obama drafted a 3rd variant. Doesn't this mean both the house and senate have to vote again? They keep saying the house will vote for the senate bill so they can push it through....hows this obamabill fit in then? Sounds like the house does a vote, then they swap bills at the end? I don't think that (or any of this really) is legal.

Regardless of what passes (if anything does) I predict it will take a long, long time to even begin to take effect as it will stay tied up in courts challenging the legal status of it. Virginia has already (I believe) passed legislation exempting the state from any mandate to purchase individual health insurance. I can see that sort of thing making anything that gets passed worse than useless as it'll take forever to actually take effect and cost millions (billions?) going through the courts.

Don't bet on that.

Health care in Canada came with a fight as well. But if any politician here tried to suggest dropping it that would be the end of their career, regardless of party affiliation.

You can't compare the 2 systems though Andrew.

Yours doesn't require you to -buy- insurance or face jail time if you don't.

Canada's healthcare system is funded by both the federal government, and by the provincial and territorial governments. The main source of revenue is taxation, i.e., personal and corporate income taxes (in some provinces, sales tax is also used). Some provinces also charge a yearly healthcare premium based on annual income.

The proposed US system on the other hand is paid for primarily by the people directly, to a complex variety of competing companies, with the poor being subsidized by the income class.

The train went back to a suggestion of scrapping the proposal for a single payer system on that post ;)

To be honest, your proposed system makes no sense at all to me, sounds like you are trying to take the worst parts of everything and hope something good comes of it.

Not me. Just the out of touch, corrupt, clueless self serving asshats who think they are above the law.

I look forward to future rammed through laws that mandate all Americans also join a health club and work out a minimum of 1 hr every other day, or face a $100 per pound over their "legal weight limit".

Indeed. No version of this bill, Senate, House, nor the latest, has ever borne any similarity to the system in Canada. The very fact that the public option is an "option" in one of the bills makes it worlds apart from our dreaded socialized commie-care here in Kanada.
