Pan's Labyrinth was released this week on DVD, so now I can see it finally. It never did make it to the theaters up here.

We just saw Pan's Labyrinth which started its national distribution this week.

For once I agree with the critics. It's brilliant. My wife is one of the toughest people I know. She was crying uncontrollably by the end. The mixture of dark fantasy, terrifying reality, imagery, acting and special effects was nearly perfect. It will tear your goddam heart out. You will not like it. But you will love it.

When we saw it in the theatre, there were people SOBBING in the row behind us at the end. Not just crying; sobbing.

It is that powerful. It is a movie I couldn't get out of my head for several days following the experience.

Very violent, but I agree — not gratuitous.

I DO think it was deep and profound. A very moving film.

I will definatly add it to my DVD collection, but I don't think I will watch it very often. It is simply too emotionally demanding.

A brilliant piece of film literature.

Also, if the DVD has a dubbed version, DON'T watch it dubbed. Read the subtitles.

I have never heard Spanish sound more beautiful.
