I don't understand?
That he got married (twice actually)?
That he fathered two children and is gay?
That he had an affair?

What exactly about this are you pointing to?

Normally, I would be able to come up with a response to a post fairly easily and quickly. I do admit, I am a bit stumped by this one. Was his stance against gay marriage based on : a) a reading of New Jersey law, b) political calculation, c) an attempt to stay closeted.

Either way, I hate to call it hypocisy ... but I'm not sure why.

I know that these next few days are going to be very challenging for him and his family. To have to deal with 'coming out', even in today's world, is difficult under the best of circumstances. Under the threat of a sexual harrasment suit, possible extortion, and in the media's eye is going to be a challenge.

I wish the Governor and his family for peacefulness in their time of disturbance.

I agree, I see no hypocrisy here. Saying he was against Gay marriage, and being Gay, isn't necessarily hypocritical. Now that he's "out", and out of a job, has he reversed his position?

I'd be interested in knowing how popular he was with New Jersey's middle class before the scandals hit him. He kept the tax burden off of them, inspite of inheriting a $5 billion budget deficit. He increased tobacco taxes to pay for it, taxed the rich, and taxed the casinos. I would think the average guy on the street would think that was pretty zippy...provided he wasn't a smoker with a two pack a day habit.

I think he's actually defending attacks on Republicans with the notion that this particular Democrat was a hypocrite (also??, I guess??)

It's amazing what people will do to hide something. Knowing what my sister and some friends of mine went through, I have a hard time judging him on this one. At least he came out, and publicly so. And how painful for his wife! And he also had the stones to resign. Good for him. It's all probably the very last things he wanted to do.

Not sure of the hypocrite label...have to do some real soul-searching on that one, I think.

Exactly. Since I'm normally very hard on Republicans, and delight in pointing fingers when they behave hypocritically, I felt it was important to point out that this cat was a Democratic hypocrite. You know, for the sake of being fair and balanced. :)

I am really stumped on this one - Democrat or other. I can not imagine what his wife and family are going through first of all. But what I do not get - he is so ashamed of his behavior (appointing an unqualifed security advisor, cheating on his wife with a man, an employee, getting bribed for millons - if the news accounts are accurate?) that he must resign. But he's not resigning until 11/15 - three months from now.

Why quit at all (unless there is something else)? Why wait until November (I get that they can replace him with an appointed Democrat)? What are folks saying in NJ?

I don't know either Glenn. The arguments seem to be about him having appointed his lover to a position in government and the threat of a sexual harrassment lawsuit. There may also be some 'fund-raising' questions that come up as well.

That he appointed his alleged lover to the Homeland Security Post seems to be getting alot of traction because, the argument goes, he was 'unqualified'. I'm curious what the qualifications for this post might be. Seems that every state was struggling to figure out what a 'Homeland Security Post' would require. I'm not sure this argument will maintain any traction.

I think more likely, the Governor resigned because of the lawsuit. Look at what Clinton went through. He would be unmercifully hounded by the right. Of course, we'll see what the delay brings about. Avoiding a special election might be good, or it might be bad. We'll see how it plays.

Look further for the fund raising information. Those who want to kick'em while he's down certainly will be.

Isn't there a gubernatorial impeachment process? But then, that would cost money and take time...and he's leaving already.

I think he's delaying because he wants to get another Democrat in office.

*sigh*

Good lord, I really hate this governor. Basically, here's what he did (For reference, i'm calling the governer dimwit and the lover boytoy):

Dimwit had a gay lover brought to this country with Democratic National Commitee money. Dimwit had the boytoy set up in living quarters with the same money. Dimwit cheated on his wife with said boytoy. Dimwit appointed boytoy to head of Homeland Security for the state, despite lack of qualifications. That means in a state that has companies and locations which have been named in recent terror threats, there was a bumbling fool heading up the department to protect against it. Eventually, people start figuring out that boytoy is a bleeding retard, and should not be in said position. Dimwit tries to cover it up for a while, until there is no longer any possible way to cover it up.

When dimwit finally comes out, and says he's gay, dimwit gets applause. People are calling him brave. What the hell? Are people that stupid? It's like saying "People, my hair is really gray!! I've been dyeing it!!!" The guy cheats on his wife, lives a lie to his kid (or is it kids? not sure). He's a scumbag!!! He let what captain happy wanted lead his decisions, and put a poet (yes, boytoy is first, and foremost a poet) in charge of homeland security for his state!! Then, to top it off, he makes his resignation effective November 15th, AFTER the point where there could have been an election to choose a new governor, but now HIS lieutenant governor will get the job by default, depriving New Jersey the choice of their next governor for another year. So yes, Shesulsa, he's making sure that HIS party is in office, instead of letting the people choose.

I don't care if a person is gay, straight, bi, or against any type of sexual relations whatsoever. Corrupt is corrupt, and scum is scum. Stupidity has no sexual orientation. I say impeach him now, and let the citizens of New Jersey have a decent governor.

You know, sometimes, I am not a very smart man. But with all that name calling, it sure seems to me, at least from this point of view, that you really do care if a person is gay, straight, bi, or whatever. Of course, that could just be me, maybe I am misunderestimating what you are saying.

And what point of view is that? That a guy who cheats on his wife his is a scumbag? That a guy who uses the money of his political party to set up an illegit lover is a scumbag (illegit meaning that the cheater is SUPPOSED to be honoring vows that he made in his current relationship first and foremost)? That a governor putting an unqualified person in a positition that is in charge of safeguarding his state against terror attacks is a scumbag? That a person who staves off letting a state choose its own governor is a scumbag? Well, I'd like to see how any of his SCUMBAG points earned are a result of him being gay. None of these SCUMBAG points are because of his sexual orientation. They come from being a.. what's that word? Oh yeah, SCUMBAG! Had his illegit lover been a woman, I'd still call him a SCUMBAG!

Well, if he didn't have any lover at all and appointed a non-American in charge of national security for the state - and that person were unqualified, etc., I would call him a scumbag.

I suppose that in itself qualifies as another scumbag point right there. What really peeves me off is that he had a standing applause. So he's gay. Big deal. I'm sick of people being applauded just for being gay. Well, I've got brown hair!!! My hair is brown! Should I be applauded for telling it like it is? Well, what if I hid my hair color? If I lied to everyone about it, and then announced that I had been living a lie, and my hair was really brown, should I be applauded? Hell no. But this guy is getting applauded for the something exactly like it, and after he lied to his wife, the state, his political party, and potentially endangered the lives of others.

He's gay? Big deal. It's nothing that deserves an ovation.

Guess what? I'M HETEROSEXUAL!!

That last statement deserves just as much applause as him announcing he's gay.

NADA.

deadhand31, chill dude, or soon you are going to sound like you are in denial.

1 - How do you know he was cheating on his wife? It wouldn't be the first time a homosexual man had a marriage of convienence. But now you are judge, jury and executioner. Adding to his family's challenges at this time, I might add.

2 - That Party money was used to pay to bring Mr. Cipel to this country is a claim I don't accept as fact, yet. I am open to new evidence.

3 - As noted earlier, What exactly were the qualifications for the position of Homeland Security you are talking about? Seems to me, at the time, such positions were brand new which means qualifications were wide open. How would you vet such an appointee? Experience with the Israeli Army might very well meet such qualifications.

4 - The good people of the Garden State did choose a Governor and a Lt. Governor. The way most states operate is, if for any reason the Governor is unable to fulfill his obligations, the Lt. Governor steps in to fill them. (Just like Cheney gets to be President if Bush chokes on another pretzel.)

All the name calling, all the vitriol, you really have to relax. Or somebody is going to start thinking something . . . .

Peace - Mike

Are there references which back up any of these statements? How much of this is fact, and how much is conjecture?
