A link between terrorism plots and hardcore child pornography is becoming clear after a string of police raids in Britain and across the Continent, an investigation by The Times has discovered. Images of child abuse have been found during Scotland Yard antiterrorism swoops and in big inquiries in Italy and Spain.
Secret coded messages are being embedded into child pornographic images, and paedophile websites are being exploited as a secure way of passing information between terrorists.

I couldn't even read the whole article. Just disgusting. Once form of nasty disgusting humanity followed up by another nasty form of humanity. Is any of it child porn, and does any of it contain secret hidden messages?

There is great irony however in an extremist movement that demands women cover up to use hardcore porn as a message medium.

Pretty stupid keeping child porn especially if it was on the internet. No other crime, apart from terrorism, has the police forces of the world working together as much as child porn. Leads picked up in the UK or US can lead to world wide arrests so I wouldn't think that passing messages via this stuff was such a good idea. I still find it horrifying how much of this stuff is out there and how many people actually collect it.

Stegongraphy is pretty interesting. Two minutes of googling found me several free stegonagraphy programs. Neat capability. I would guess the reason Islamic terrorists use porn for it is because porn is forbidden.

Isn't this a little like a headline that says "Link between interest-bearing accounts and Muslim terrorists" or "Link between passports and Muslim terrorists."

The article seems to say they area using child porn, and child porn trafficking networks, as a tool -- not that Muslim terrorists are a bunch of pedophiles.

I'm certain there's a percentage of the population that's both, but this kind of thing (to my thinking) hurts our cause. It's implying something that's not true...meaning that when we make true statements about how evil these bastards are, there will be people who don't believe us because of this headline right here.

They could have used websites covering fine art and put stegonagraphy in that stuff, that they didn't may or may not say something about their proclivities.

A fair point, but it seems equally (if not more) likely that the choice was utilitarian. Porn is likely to get a less careful scruitinization than fine art precisely because it's so shocking and disgusting...and I would think even moreso in people from such a sexually repressed culture.

It's a technique we see too often, and I fear it will bite us in the *** in the long run.

And some while later, we'll find a terrorist cell with data hidden in photos of us being bitten on the ***....

Fascinating. I've been aware of steganography for some time. It does not surprise me to find out that the Islamic terrorists are using it to transmit messages to each other. I am surprised to find they are piggy-backing on child porn, but it makes sense. The pedophile networks are deep underground; they are already well-versed in avoiding law enforcement. They encode the messages in the images - the pedophiles transfer them secretly around the world for the terrorists unknowingly. Clever.

A friend in the army told me a few years back that we also use porn as a tool in the WOT. It seems that some govt sites have it as a built in defense. If you try to hack into them, you get directed to various porn sites with the theory that terrorists from such a rigidly repressed background will stay online longer because of the porn and their signal in then easier to backtrack. He said that some of the targets of our drone attacks have been determined this way because the sites they lead to could only be accessed by trying to hack into our systems.Could all be nothing more than BS that came from too much beer. But it makes for an interesting story.
