As a progressive, I'll admit to taking my personal business elsewhere if/when I find the owner/operator is right wing conservative in party fashion. I have done the same with certain party Democrats as well.

As a business owner I cannot discriminate no matter what and so I don't.

I also watch what I say.

She got what she deserved - she dropped an F-bomb in a place of business. I don't care if it was a horse stable ... it was a place of business and it was inappropriate to do so or to express political opinion in such a fashion.

one of the few moments were the whole forum agreed...

However, the customer showed yet more class according to the follow up posts.

Ah, good times of having an exchange of thoughts without name calling and screaming...the poster got it from all sides, I am afraid... :)

Oh, and no, I am left of the middle myself....but style is never wrong, even if we don't agree on the message.

First post and then the follow up posts by the poster.

It did not play out the way the title indicated, but the conservative player is my hero. :)

I think you'd be surprised how often people bite their tongues IRL when confronted with unsolicited political opinion. I get it occasionally from "rightwingers", but it's usually the lefties who assume I share their beliefs.

LOL, I actually think it was the opposite from tongue biting - after the confrontation...
But points can be driven home without making a fool of oneself or name calling.
An art form we a slowly losing.

True. And I'm throwing this out there because I don't know if you noticed this or not: You posted a link to a thread in which a "Progressive" person behaved appallingly, with the expressed wish that rightwingers could behave as well as this person's client. Do you see the irony?

BTW, I'm with the posters who think the OP is a troll. 3 posts, outrageous story, never came back to respond. OP in the link, that is, not you.

Unless politics is your business, it's to keep politics out of the workplace, period.. The initial poster is going to pay the price for her complete lack of professionalism. It just might be a good lesson for her.I used to teach Martial Arts at a studio where the owner would rant on about politics and religion in the classes he taught, even the kid's classes, and, although I shared many of his sentiments about politics, the whole thing used to make me wince with embarassement. He didn't care though. He was simply unable to keep his mouth shut. When students and parents would complain, he would just wave them away. There was one incident, where a young college student engaged him and the poor kid was left completely embarassed, so much so, that he just didn't come back. He was a nice guy and a good student, I just hope he's still training. I'm sure the guy lost alot of business, but he was the type that would cut his nose off to spite his face.I wish people would learn to be appropriate with their views on politics. When I go to a restaurant, I don't want to see the owners political leanings on the walls or in literature on my table. When I go to a music concert, I don't want to her whomever it is harp on about politics and, when I go to see a movie, I don't want the director's politics bouncing about on the screen. I remember when the Dixie Chicks got all political in the middle of their concert in London and their business suffered as a consequence. People have to realize that they are free to say whatever they want, but people are also free to not partake in their business services.

I agree 100%. Regardless of political opinion, she was acting plain stupid. That was a bad attitude. Rightwingers don't hold the monopoly to stupidity. That said I did find it funny how people were outraged about her calling someone 'racist' but calling Obama socialist, communist and unamerican was just dandy :)

I mean, coming from a crowd which was lecturing her about inappropriately using words to describe a someone, that was a bit funny.

you know its actually interesting. I have lived in California most of my life.
I lived in the San Francisco Bay area for 5 years and if not for the extremely wet weather and rain we had in 1998-99 I might even still live there. I made several friends who were so far on the left that when anything went political we stuck out like cats and dogs on the worst day.
However we had already developed a friendship and common ground on so many other things that we could let the politics remain what they were, discuss them passionately, argue, get pissed, and then go grab a beer and laugh about our other shared pursuits.
My family owns a business in one of the most left leaning areas in San Diego and we are very conservative. Politics are left out of business for a reason. I would not do business with someone who was constantly spouting off in the business setting about politics either.... left or right... because that means their focus is not on business, but rather everything else. I have some friends who are fairly far right and I do not have anything to do with their businesses because they are so militant about it in their place of business that I dont necessarily trust that they are the best one for my business.
I want to deal with professionals... in whatever business I am dealing with. Professionals focus on the task at hand and leave the rest of the BS out of it.

on a side note... I don't believe that post is factual. I think its a set up, made up story to get a response. I find it hard to believe that someone who is that egotistical and opinionated would paint herself into a bad picture and the "enemy" so well... As much as I want to believe its right on the money, my brain is screaming at me that its a hoax.. /shrug
