Do you need a permit or license?

Is there a course that needs to be completed in order to do this type of work?

Thanks.

Since this is here...

The requirements are different in each state, and different for different types of work. For example, in Virginia, you need separate licensing/registration for guards, private investigators, and bodyguards. While there is overlap in the mandated training, each requires specific training, and you need the proper license for the work you wish to do. Some actions could actually require more than one (say, you contract to both protect someone against a threat, and to investigate that threat; you'd need both PI and bodyguard certification, as far as I know.)

Some states have extensive requirements. Others have almost none. Many are not reciprical; a license or certification in one state may not have any meaning or effect in another.
