I can see paying 300-400 bucks tops for a knife, anyone got any input?

I don't know about the best... but I have one of these and it seems pretty good. It's not a knife I'd ever want to see pointing at my face, if I were contemplating attacking someone who turned out to be carrying one. And the handle is heavy enough that the specially designed 'glass breaker' handle end gets the support it needs to... well, shatter automobile-windshield- thickness glass easily. The gladius tip is wickedly sharp on both point and edge (which slopes back from the point to end in a genuinely macabre 'rip' point)... a formidable knife, all in all, and, at $90, pretty affordable.
