I plan on being in Detroit July 25-28. My daughter is competing in the AAU Jr Olympics. It is being held at Clay Ford Statium. I think that is the name for the new statium. Where the Lions try to play football. Wondering if there are any school close by that I could come by and visit. I may not have much time, on a very tight schedule.

The FMA and Modern Arnis fora are full of Detroit area people--you might make a post in FMA-General too.

They should be much improved this year. New Coach, who is good and some good solid players. Sorry about the comment. Had to sneak that one in there. Seeing if anyone was paying attention.

there are No Schools close to the stadiums...or malls close to it. However; there is great food all around. Unfortunatly, Detroit isn't laid out very well.

Look for Xochimilco's (so shee mee ko's) - Mexican
all the casino's have good food, but pricey - variety
Sweet Georgia Brown (everything)- expensive
Carl's Chop House- Classic- pricey

many resturants in Greek Town (next to stadiums)- various cuisenes and prices

Hockey town Cafe (right across the street from Comerica park)- good food, prices ok!

Seigi on this board has one of the closer schools to the stadium, although still a few miles out. Tall Adam is from that school as well. I'm sure they can give you more info and possbily work out with you.

Well lets see, I must say progressivetactics, Detroit is not layed out very well. I lost count how many times we got lost or missed an exit. Made wrong turn down by the Stadium and ended up in Beruit. Thanks to the policeman who got us going the right way. Several blocks away from the main gate of Ford Field. Great Lakes Crossing Mall very nice and easy to get to. Went to Canda also. Ate at a place called Peppers, didn't want to venture to far out. Was on a time schudule almost was late. Traffic backed up on both sides. Overall it was a good trip. Would like to ran in too several of you Detroit Martial Artist. But time wasn't on my side.

kempojujutsu.....:wah:

Dude you went to Great Lakes Crossing...? You were right in my neighborhood, yet I got no e-mail! Next time, maybe? ;)

The Metro D is not user friendly at all. Directions can be difficult for people who aren't used to our road system, and if you don't fall into a pot hole and die on your way to your destination then your gauranteed to get stuck in traffic. It seems to take 30 minutes to get anywhere in this state, even down the street, you never know where the construction is going to be in the summer so your directions never pan out the way they should. And it is a complete mystery to most as to what the construction is all about, because it seems that every road has a pothole large enough to fit a Honda. If you ever went "off roading" on I-94, then you completely understand why every 3rd car in Detroit is an SUV.

Yea, it's not a bad state but we have some of the worst traffic/road problems in the U.S.. There are probably only one or two areas that might be worse, but that's about it.

I tell this to people who live in Michigan (most who've lived here long enough to get used to the way it is) and they deny that we have such problems. It's always nice to hear it from someone else just to know that I am not completely full of it! :D

Other then the roads, I hope you had a good time!

Working in Public relations, we Have Paul Janulis. Paul is in charge of helping people cope with the anxiety and confusion upon completing a trip through Detroit. He also works part time in sales for the Detroit Welcome Wagon.

Yeah, I don't know who would agrue with you Paul. It is not the road system we had all dreamed of as little children. Or even what it is like in EVERY other state I have been in. The city is improving greatly though....just not the roads. As for losing a Honda, They deserve for driving a HOnda! We don't loose Chevy's, Ford's or Dodge's in those pot holes..

Kempojujutsu: I told you it ain't layed out very well, but there is a ton of things to do, and good food all around. I'm surprised you went all the way up to the Great Lakes crossing. It is the best mall in south east Michigan, but a hike from downtown.
I'm sorry We couldn't hook up. I would have much rather ate lunch and played tour guide with you, then go to Indiana for the in-laws family reunion. WOW... I'm still cleaning my ears with a key, and spitting in the kitchen just from 1 day of hangin with the Indianians!!!

Well, how did the AAU tournament go for ya?

LOL, you welcome, Detroit welcome wagon at your service.

And about losing a Honda, I lost one this weekend :( At about 140,000 miles, my ball joint in the front broke, bottoming out the vehicle.

But I never learn, I guess.....I am picking up a brand new Civic today!!:partyon:

I will say, though, that the Honda is actually the most american made car to date, considering that they come out of a plant in Ohio, and most of the parts are made now in the U.S. We can't say that for our "american" labels anymore. ;)

I seen the wrestling also on sunday. I seen a paper sign about karate, kubudo, and Tae kwon do. Had times listed but no dates and location/room was not listed. No martial arts vendor I saw.
Sorry I miss you Adam.
