Year of the Tiger (Hu 虎), element metal (Jin 金)

To mainland China the year is based on the reign of Huang-di, (黃帝/黄帝 huángdì) or the Yellow Emperor. However the dates seem to vary greatly but if you base it on the Shiji by historian Sima Qian his reigned was from 2697 BC to 2597 BC which then makes would the year…well no one can really agree when Huand Di actually was Emeror and I don’t really think the Chinese much care, being Chinese history, agreeing on the actual date of Huangdi is rather difficult at times. I have seen the current year (tiger) range from from 4647 to 4707. But if you base it on Sima Qian it would be 4607 and to Buddhists it is 2554 and on Taiwan it is 99 (since the end of the Qing Dynasty)

Regardless, historical arguments and politics aside

My son was born in the Year of the Tiger. My superstitious side says that this will be a good year for the family :).
