That's when the 80 year old homeowner woke up and heard the suspect breaking in.
The homeowner got up, grabbed his handgun and confronted the suspect.
Police say the suspect continued to approach the homeowner, and that's when he was shot.

And that's why owning a handgun and knowing how and when to use it is a good thing. No police officer could have responded fast enough to protect this man. The suspect continued to advance on the homeowner, and at 80 years old, not many could defend themselves physically against an intruder intent on committing mayhem. Well done, homeowner.

I don`t know the current stats, but when I moved over here 6 years ago the fastest growing group of gun owners in the US were senior citizens. I guess a little insurance can bring alot of peace of mind.

In the hands of good people guns don't cause crime, they sometimes even help stop it.
