Have you tried Active isolated stretching in your class and was they sucessful?

Follow these steps in performing each stretch:
Contract the muscle group opposite the area you're stretching.
Bring each stretch to the point of light irritation.
Hold for 2 seconds. Return to your starting position and relax for 2 seconds. Repeat the stretch.
