Tho' for various reasons of history I have ever had quiet doubts about the nationalism inherent in singing the Anthem at sports events witnessing that was a very affirmatory and very human thing. I am here in England trying to eat my lunch past the lump in my throat as fellow feeling wells up within me for all those injured and lost in a senseless terrorist attack.

Well, being German, where flag waving and anthem singing is somewhat suspect.....

But the anthem singing should not be a spectator sport IMHO. And as much as it is performed, everybody ought to know the words.

But I think it would have been equally chilling if they had sung 'Old Lang Syne' as a crowd.

Lots of nice tributes this week. They played Sweet Caroline at several base ball games. Thats kinda the rec Sox theme song they play during the 8th inning ever home game. Even the Yankees did it.
