Saw some great matches on ESPN2 tonight. I don't know which Basho they aired, but one of the Yokozunas - Takanohana - was out with a dislocated knee sustained when he won the previous Emperor's cup (OUCH).
The fella that won this Basho, Kaio, had only one loss during the 15-day tournament and convincingly won his match against the other Yokozuna, the near-500-lb. Musashimaru. Kaio won nearly all of his matches by employing armlocks. Very impressive.
These matches were a refreshing change over the musical kata crap ESPN2 had been showing the past few months. The skilled showed by all the wrestlers in the aired tournament was very impressive. I wish they showed more. Where I used to live, I got NHK from the cable provider so I got more sumo coverage. Not so where I am now. Oh well.
