@Razor, Rime of the Ancient Mariner is one of those epics I think from a genre that is beyond the wit of many current acts. A classic indeed! :) I understand completely. As for having the grace to accept what one cannot change, my philosophy is that the only thing that cannot be changed is what we determine cannot be changed. When we appreciate that all things are indeterminate then we can affect change. Even where that would seem impossible. And but I doubt this is the place for it :) Here, have some Black :)
But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Another great song from an excellent album! One of my Metallica favourites too :)

Ah, now when you said that, I was expecting this...

\

It's been one week since you smiled at me,
Threw your arms in the air, and said "you're crazy".....
Christopher I cannot watch because it has been embedding was disabled, which must be terrible for all involved. Your cryptic posts suggest you are fraught? Perhaps I should not ask. Perhaps you need shelter and so here is one from the 1970s. Or 1969 which is the same thing according to my (ex)researcher :D

Ah, for you my J, I'll find another version.... here's a live one!

And here are the lyrics:

One Week - Barenaked Ladies

It's been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side and said "I'm angry"
Five days since you laughed at me saying
"Get that together come back and see me"
Three days since the living room
I realized it's all my fault, but couldn't tell you
Yesterday you'd forgiven me
but it'll still be two days till I say I'm sorry

Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi
'cause it's never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabe when I bust rhymes
Big like LeAnn Rimes
Because I'm all about value
Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits
You try to match wits, you try to hold me but I bust through
Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinkin achin shake
I like vanilla, it's the finest of the flavours
Gotta see the show, cause then you'll know
The vertigo is gonna grow
Cause it's so dangerous,
you'll have to sign a waiver

How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean?
Well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of taking off my shirt

It's been one week since you looked at me
Threw your arms in the air
and said "You're crazy"
Five days since you tackled me
I've still got the rug burns on both my knees
It's been three days since the afternoon
You realized it's not my fault
not a moment too soon
Yesterday you'd forgiven me
And now I sit back and wait til you say you're sorry

Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watchin' X-Files with no lights on
We're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford I'm getting frantic
Like Sting I'm tantric
Like Snickers, guaranteed to satisfy

Like Kurasawa I make mad films
Okay, I don't make films
But if I did they'd have a Samurai
Gonna get a set a' better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
'Cause the cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing

How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad
Tryin' hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean?
Well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt

It's been one week since you looked at me
Dropped your arms to your sides
and said "I'm sorry"
Five days since I laughed at you and said
"You just did just what I thought you were gonna do"
Three days since the living room
We realized we're both to blame,
but what could we do?
Yesterday you just smiled at me
Cause it'll still be two days till we say we're sorry

It'll still be two days till we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days till we say we're sorry

Pick the lyrics that are important to me, and you might win a prize. Okay, maybe not.

This song brings back memories of being young , long hot summers and driving back from the beach with the sounds of Aussie Crawl blaring from the car stereo and not having a care in the world.

@mook jong man, hey cool 1980s thing happening there :) thank you for sharing! Wish I had had that growing up experience that you had.. mine was all grey streets and bleak winters. I did have Ramsay St and Summer Bay for sunshine though. Oh and sunny songs that took away from they greyness of my youth...

I am thinking it must be the line about golf. All the ladies say you look a pretty picture in your plus-fours and argyle socks marching apace down the fairway :D Ah no I am joking. I cannot guess and will forfeit the prize. What was my prize to be anyway? DO not tell me it was an ashtray for my motorbike? An ejector seat for my helicopter??

Nobody has any respect
Anyhow they already expect you
To just give a check to you
To tax-deductible charity organizations

Cause you know something is happening
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?

Still things could be much worse.
Natural disasters on the evening news.
Still things could be much worse.
We've still got our health.
My paycheck in the mail...

I'm just an honest man.
Provide for me and mine.
I give a check to tax deductable charity organizations.
Two weeks paid vacation
Won't heal the damage done.
I need another one...

One more that comes to mind today.

Bang goes another day, where it went I could not say.
Now I'll have to wait another week.

When all is said and all is done, what was said was never done.
Don't panic, it's not really worth your while.

Bang goes another year, in and out of one ear.
Everybody's doing it, so do it too.

Ah, the lines were ones like:
"I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve.... I have a history of losing my shirt",
"Five days since I laughed at you and said "You just did just what I thought you were gonna do""
"Yesterday you'd forgiven me, And now I sit back and wait til you say you're sorry"

Oh, and the golf thing....

As to the prize? Well, it was going to be an all-expences paid trip to Melbourne for you and two others, but only if you got all of them right... oh well....

One more that comes to mind today.

For some reason the clip reminds me of something I haven't seen (or heard) for a little while now...

MaxQ (featuring Michael Hutchence) - Way of the World

You are born into this world
Looking down the barrel of a gun
And those who hold the gun
Want you to work fast and die young
And if you don't work
If you don't obey
They'll make you live in fear
till your dying day
Those who govern hold the gun to your head
With religions,
corporations, proud of
blood
They've shed

CHORUS:
Whether it's God or the bomb
It's just the same
It's only fear under another name
(x2)

And the corporate snakes coming in to feed
On that pathetic fact known as human greed
Skin and bone being raked
over those hot coals
This dump never seems to give
time for human soul
And all those things that we have learnt
No time for questions,
you'll just get burnt
You'll just get burnt

(CHORUS x2)

And those words crush you flat
Like your skull's under a brick
And the fear's so damnned strong
That it makes you sick
And you can see right through those eyes
That make you fear, that make you lie
And you're taught to hold high
Yet you wonder why
Dumb values forced upon you by the
Living lie

(CHORUS x5 to fade)

Hmm, that was happy....

@Steve, I think I understand your concerns and perhaps empathise. I think these concerns reflected in music since the demise of the true folk songwriter are very much middle-class. Here is a true working class hero. I do not normally post entire songs and but Between The Wars is for me a classic heartfelt song of the common man.

I was a miner
I was a docker
I was a railway man
Between the wars
I raised a family
In times of austerity
With sweat at the foundry
Between the wars

I paid the union and as times got harder
I looked to the government to help the working man
And they brought prosperity down at the armoury
"We're arming for peace me boys"
Between the wars

I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
For theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man
Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
And mine is the peace we knew
Between the wars

Call up the craftsmen
Bring me the draughtsmen
Build me a path from cradle to grave
And I'll give my consent
To any government
That does not deny a man a living wage

Go find the young men never to fight again
Bring up the banners from the days gone by
Sweet moderation
Heart of this nation
Desert us not, we are
Between the wars

@Chris Parker
Christopher, those lines are not easily understood to the outside observer you know and so I cannot properly share you back a song except to give you one from the archive whether it is interpreted or not. The prize? It sounds wonderful though it is a long way for a frail body to journey. You have invented a teleport yet? I would be there in an instant :)

Truth is lost in the mists of empty vision
And found in the notebooks of those wrongfully imprisoned
And in the evidence that was never brought to trial
But not in the void behind the newsreaders' smile
Truth hides whenever we lose our focus
Slips out the back quickly replaced by the bogus
Fleeing soundbites disguised as facts
That reappear in the small print on every contract
[yt]KJtx3qZCZc0[/yt]

I wonder how much history we don't know.

Golden brown texture like sun
Lays me down with my mind she runs
Throughout the night
No need to fight
Never a frown with golden brown

Every time just like the last
On her ship tied to the mast
To distant lands
Takes both my hands
Never a frown with golden brown
[yt]d7R7q1lSZfs[/yt]

One of my earliest memories is my mother rocking me to this song. Her skin is golden brown and I still find this song comforting.

@Monroe, oh ADF is wonderful music I am in agreement yet again! There is much history we do not know. As for the history we believe we know, I could only suggest that of past events which we were neither present at nor party to, what we believe we know has already been subject to the cleanse-and-filter processing spin of the compilers of that history. Even what we think we know, we can never fully know. Topic of another conversation I am sure :)

Everybody's going to the party - have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

[yt]zUzd9KyIDrM[/yt]

Golden Brown is a really cool old song and I think I remember about opiates? Or maybe that is just what was always conjured in my mind by the video :) Nevertheless, I envy your memories Monroe. Cherish those.

BYOB is a great tune! I'll admit to bouncing around to that one. Not sure why, but it reminds me of Dragula.

[yt]EqQuihD0hoI[/yt]

The recent interest in occupy wallstreet has made me think of this song/music video today.

[yt]HLUX0y4EptA[/yt]

Oh goodness, you are choosing exactly what I would choose myself! :D Dragula is an absolute classic for me!!!

I remember that riding the bike song from not so long ago yes? And the OWS protests conjure lots of songs in my head. I posted this several times here on site because of its eternal cyclical pertinence. From the old 1970s movie Network.

If you want to destroy my sweater, hold this thread as I walk away. Watch me unravel, I'll soon be naked. Lying on the floor, I've come undone.

What does that take you back to Christopher? 15 yr ago takes me back to llamas. This song was so fitting. Still so...

[yt]1HBxUWSxcq8[/yt]

Ah, my dearest J, llamas are truly a treasure to behold and have in your life in many ways, I believe.... but allow me reply by keeping it in the same vein...

15 years ago was a time of discovery, adventure, confusion, awakening, and realisation. Not dissimilar, and yet definitely not literally akin to the following offering from Shirley, Butch, and the lads:

Such a delicate boy
In a hysterical realm
Of an emotional landslide
In physical terms

Hmm, don't read too much into this one. Or, if you do, keep it less literally in the context of the song, okay? Thanks!
