If they're that fearful of being sued why didn't they say something years even decades ago about the dangers of obesity? I mean they did it with cigarettes and other things... fatty foods and the like should've gotten warnings on them.

I don't know of a time when I wasn't being constantly warned. It is not like it was being hailed as the cool thing to do.

Yeah, that's why there is an obesity epidemic - because nobody thought to put warning labels on food.
