Other than 'Traditional Martial Arts vs Mixed Martial Arts' and 'Chinese Martial Arts vs Japanese Martial Arts', what other (common?) martial art-related debates are there?

Just about anything you can think of.

Even in the same style, you will have organization vs. organization or teacher vs. teacher as to who is closest to the "original' teachings.

If there is a difference, people will argue about it. LOL

Should children be awarded black belts?

Followed closely by exactly how meaningless is rank? (Usually engaged in by people who have pretty senior black belt ranks.)

Not true at all, there is no argument that Star Wars is better...

Claims of authenticity and/or lineage.
Ki - fact or fiction?
Board breaking - useless parlor trick or legitimate proof of martial prowess.

There are 3 major debates in the martial arts that will never be fully resolved:

1) Sport versus self defence only
2) Stand up versus ground fighting
3) Striking versus grappling

There are 3 major debates in the martial arts that will never be fully resolved:

1) Sport versus self defence only
2) Stand up versus ground fighting
3) Striking versus grappling

Sport is sport and self defense is self defense - Both can be taught anywhere between the spectrum of rubbish and quality, and some people will never get better at something no matter how good their training is. Both of them are designed to hurt people, with the methodology being all thats varied.

Stand up striking and ground fighting both work just fine, and it is subjective only to the preference of the practitioner, so long as they are aware that if they are taken into the other persons world without being capable of functioning in it they will be at a distinct disadvantage. Both can be taught anywhere between the spectrum of rubbish and quality, and some people will never get better at something no matter how good their training is.

Striking and grappling, generally speaking, work together quite swimmingly. Even so, striking and grappling both work fine, and it is subjective only to the preference of the practitioner which they prefer, so long as they are aware that if they are taken into the other persons world without being capable of functioning in it they will be at a distinct disadvantage. Both can be taught anywhere between the spectrum of rubbish and quality, and some people will never get better at something no matter how good their training is.

Three major debates solved in one swift notion. Im open to hearing any contradictions whatsoever.
Verse the two against each other or against themselves and the superior individual will prevail regardless of their training or experience in Martial Arts.
