Good martial arts films

In your opinion, what is the best martial arts film?
I want to watch some good martial arts films but I'm not aware of many myself. Thanks!

I saw Circle of Iron over the weekend, the seventies movie that has David Carraldine in it. It's good in a bad sort of way.

I'll second the Ip Man movies. Also liked Kuro Obi (Black Belt) and Red Cliff, and I am a nut for wuxia series like The Eagle Shooting Heroes.

I'm partial to the Run Run Shaw Kung Fu movies, specifically the ones involving the "Venom Mob."

My favorites:

Crippled Avengers
2 Champions of Shaolin
Five Deadly Venoms
Invincible Shaolin
Kid With the Golden Arm

Also, flicks that don't use the Venom Mob:

If I have to limit myself to just one, I'd say Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

Kuro Obi has an honorable mention.

The rest are chaff to be swept into the fire with a winnowing fork. Not that I don't enjoy them, but martial arts films are, as a general rule, a 90-120 minute wast of my life Much like McDonald's they're bad, but I like them.

But seriously I was surprised when I watched Kung Fu Hustle,it was pretty darn good

Also any old Chuck Norris movie but Forced Vengeance is the one I seem to like best

There is a plethora of Jackie Chan films and there are other films by Donnie Yen that are pretty good too

To Go along with Ip man, I suggest that you just go to google and type in Donnie Yen and watch pretty much any of the movies that he is in. He's a phenomenal martial arts actor and I can only assume he's a great actual martial artist as well.

Most if not all of his movies have insanely awesome action in it, and he adopts a large variety of styles ( in the Ip man series, he's using wing chun, In Flashpoint He uses MMA, In Killzone it's more general kung fu. In legend of the fist it's Jeet Kune Do )

Drunken Master is my all time number 1 due to the young Jackie Chan's superhuman performance
Closely followed by Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (Hwang Jang Lee = jaw dropping skills)
Closely followed by Enter the Dragon. After you watch this it's compulsory to watch 'Kentucky Fried Movie' immediately for the 'A Fistful of Yen' spoof. No questions, just do it!
Iron Monkey is good for a laugh
Jet Li's Fist of Legend is also really good fun
Once upon a time in China 1, and 2
Once upon a time in China and America (again, bad but good)
Shanghai Noon (uno mas?) but NOT Shanghai Knights (what were they thinking?)
Have to agree with the earlier comment about Seven Samurai, awesome movie
The first Rush Hour movie still makes me giggle
Kung Fu Panda was surprisingly good, due to references to other movies
Romeo Must Die is stylish and funny in places
Drive (with Marc Dacascos) is hilariously bad, so bad it's good again (how can anyone not like a movie that contains the line 'well, if it isn't my favourite cheese eatin' d*** monkeys')
All of the Baby Cart series except for the US rehash 'Shogun Assassin'. Particularly Baby Cart at the River Styx, but it's only good if you've watched all the previous ones
TV series 'The Water Margin'
Books James Clavell's 'Shogun' and the accompanying early 80's mini series adaptation
Bloodsport (for the cheese)
Kickboxer (ditto)
Best of the Best (if you're a TKD fan)

most of the chuck Norris films are fairly good.
some of the Vandam, and Steven Seagal films are good
and all 3 of the substitute movies are good. the 3rd has Claudia Christian in it, she was Ivonava in Babylon 5. but all have good Martial arts in them.

Third one isn't too bad, it doesn't have Donnie Yen though, it's a prequel to the other films. I thought the first two were better.

Blood and Bone (staring Michael Jai White) is fairly predictable, but has some great fight scenes.

Tons of great movies by Jackie Chan, several have been mentioned already. Old 70's Shaw Brothers kung fu movies are corny but entertaining - Five Deadly Venoms and Kid with the Golden Arm are a couple of my favorites from that era.

Martial Club aka Instructors of Death with Gordon Liu is quite good imo. I'm also a bit of a Ti Lung nut, so I'd recommend "The Magic Blade" and "Opium and the Kung fu Master".
