The “correct” uniform is whatever meets the standards where you train. A Kung Fu school probably won’t use a gi, since that’s a Japanese term (unless they word is also used in one of the Chinese languages with that pronunciation).

As for comfy, yes a good gi is very comfy. I wear old ones while hanging around the house.

A sentiment i actually agree with, though in my case its aldi work wear

The uniform is going to vary school to school, even in the same art. It may even vary by rank or by class.

For example, BJJ schools have gi and no-gi classes.

My old TKD school had crossover doboks for white and colored belts, and V-neck for black belts.

My current school is:

• White v-necks for white and colored belts.
  
• Blue or red for students who have completed 1 or 2 years of the citizenship program
  
• White v-neck with black trim for black belts
• Black v-neck for 2nd dan
• Crossover at 4th dan
• Sparring club wears dobok pants with sparring club t-shirt and no belt
• Sparring club instructors wear the same, except with belt

Some TKD schools go with just dobok pants and a tshirt, or even just gym clothes and a belt.

Lol, I am one of those who does not wear combats, nor dickies work trousers, neither do I wear branded martial art clothes, that tell everyone else that you have just started that art form.
Shorts and a t-shirt and barefeet, all year round.

I think I've seen this "gi" in some tournaments, though this one is not as flashy. Actually, I'm joking - I don't go to competitions where such things are worn. I have two gi, both white, no fringe or sequins.
