Hello,

I am learning the Filippino fighting stick, and most of the time, I train by myself. I am just wondering if there is any training aid out there that could help me in my training. For example, like a punching bag with sticks sticking out, and I can adjust the position of those sticks. Does something like that exist? I know that they have a punching bag with target for tae kwon do.

Thx
Jacques

Yep, trees. Using different trees also helps to adjust to different variables. You can also wrap a tree with some foam and duct tape to closer simulate the bodys absorbtion of energy, kinda like a heavy bag does.

theres always one of those wing chun dummies, or a wing chun belt that you can strap to a heavy bag. they are pretty pricey though

Used up tires are a great way to go and also very inexpensive!
I used to use the stick on a rope quite a bit and that is pretty good
as well. to start I would advise that you use alot of duct tape on the
ends and pad them up with a round ball on the end because those
sticks on ropes have a tendency to move quite a bit.

I thought it was Balitok which I had not heard of before this, but that is ok, and not Balintawak.

I had not heard of it either. However, there are so
many systems in the Phillipines that I doubt that anyone
could have heard of them all.

I agree Brian. It would be hard for anyone to claim to have heard or know of them all. ;) :D :)

Although given the name and the city if Cebu where Balintawak Escrima was born the confusion could been seen.

They wer fighting in a corto range, and had some good use of punyo, but with the nails and whip it most definitely is not Balintawak in its' original format. Of course as with any art good principals can be applied to other weapons and areas of your life. :)
