Lets return to the 3 questions asked.

There is a difference between fighting and combat experience. A fight may not be life/death, combat usually is.

Is he only passing on technique as it was in the past, or is the principles taught so as to be timeless?

Hundreds of students of Dr. Hatsumi use their skills daily in protective situations. Their success would indicate that the skills are indeed effective, and that the means of training successfully transfers the knowledge into the student.

Did I say they were doing Judo randori? I don't think so. I said that he was challenged and fought two Judo practioners, who after became Hatsumi sensei's students.
