A Border Patrol agent shot and killed near the U.S.-Mexican border was lured into a trap by his killers who wanted to steal a pair of night vision goggles according to a plea agreement reached with one of the men charged in the shooting.

Agent Robert Rosas spotted a suspicious group in the remote Campo area near the Mexican border July 23, 2009. He called for backup but when the suspicious group split up, Rosas went after some suspects by himself.
Other agents heard gunshots and found Rosas shot four times in the head on Shockey Truck Trail in Campo. He was also shot once in the neck and three times in the torso.

How sad. I hope they send these pieces of **** up the river for life! Another important reason to wait for your backup.

Easy to say wait for your backup. I don't think he really decided he was going to apprehend the group he followed unless the circumstances were really favorable. It is hard to say what exactly happened. They may have planned an ambush all along, he may have allowed himself to be discovered before he intended. Who knows. But the miscreants should indeed spend the rest of their life behind bars, or take a needle. Not for themselves, but as a deterrent to others.
