Mauna Kula and my new direction

This is my first post in this blog and I must say that I am very happy this feature has been added to MT. I want to take a little time to explain mauna kula to everyone.

This is my new school. The name means Mountain School in Hawaiian. It was named after Ko'olau mountains in which I live and for the ethos that I've adopted for the place.

"Kulia i ka nu'u," was Queen Kapiolani's crede. It means "to continually strive for the summit."

The interesting thing about is that it refers to something that you can't always see. In the picture I posted of the mountains where I live, often the summit of the mountains are obscured by clouds. A person's journey through the martial arts is often like that. You don't know how or why you are doing something, but at some point the clouds clear and you acheive a moment of clarity.

Strive to the summit even when you can't see it. It's becoming my koan for life actually. There's a lot of things I don't understand and these things have affected my spirit negatively for a long time.

In order to set a new pace for myself, a new direction, I needed to find a bit of faith...and THAT is the power of Queen Kapiolani's crede. You need some faith to follow it.

It could be faith in god. It could be faith that you are on the right path. It could be faith that you have a purpose or reason for following the path even if you don't understand.

Kulia i ka nu'u has guided the steps of all the mythical Hawaiian heros and it will guide my steps as well as the steps of the students in Mauna Kula.

I think that this move was very good for you, especially considering the fact that your "spirit is being affected negatively." I think that this is a great journey for you, and Hawaii is the perfect place for that. Good luck!
