It's been a dicey road in the UFC for national champion wrestler Mark Munoz. The former Oklahoma State grappler was thrown into the Octagon with little experience. He had a rough time last March at UFC 96 when he got knocked unconscious by Matt Hamill with a head kick. His hard work and resilience paid off tonight as he ran over UFC veteran Ryan Jensen. Munoz scored a takedown and immediately pounded away at Jensen with 25 unanswered shots. After a few shots to the body, Jensen actually tapped out via strikes 10 seconds before the official stoppage. Referee Mario Yamasaki finally gave the win to Munoz at 2:30 of the opening round of a middleweight bout.

Munoz (7-1, 2-1 UFC) is trying to make the transition from the world of wrestling where he was the NCAA champ at 197 pounds in 2001. The Hamill loss at 205 pounds was a real eye-opener. Munoz dropped down to middleweight for his next fight, a sluggish win over Nick Catone. He looked to have a full gas tank in this one and was relentless when it went to the floor. After Friday's weigh-in, he tweeted later in the evening that he had eaten three meals and was back up to 207 pounds.

Jensen is now 1-4 in the UFC and probably headed for the unemployment line. He has quality losses to Thales Leites, Demian Maia and Wilson Gouveia but that may not be enough to stay around.
