I've always disagreed with that assessment. Bruce was just the most visible person because he was a movie star. Bruce was familiar with the Kajukenbo crowd in California and saw how they already incorporated "MMA" into their approach. It was new for him, and it was new for many who only studied a strict traditional Japanese based art.

IMHO Sijo Emperado should be considered the "Father of MMA" in the US.
