How does this stuff work? If I register a domain name with yahoo, is there a way to just transfer one of my pages to that domain name, or do I have to completely rebuild my page? Once I have registered a domain name, do I have to put my website on the host through which I puchased the domain registration? Is there a cheaper way to do any of this stuff?

You can host anywhere you want regardless of where you register it.
You just need to fill in the correct DNS or NameServer information at the registrar.

Some places use proprietary site-builder software, which won't follow you if you move.

Shameless Plug:
I handle Domain Registrations starting at $15US/year, and offer hosting to MartialTalk members starting at $10US/mo. See http://www.martialtalk.com/webservices.shtml for more information.
