Does anyone know some good sites that describe the history of each ryu and what is characteristically found in each? I've done some searching (here and google), and have not come up with too much yet.

On another note, is there a catalogued and consice history of other ryu that have died out? I'm just curious to see what they are...

MrH

Edit: btw, I have names, brief descriptions already. Looking more for history and a bit more than one line or so of detail

For information on other Japanese ryu, the Budo Ryuha Daijiten has a lot of good info.

You might want to check out Paul Richardson's site, http://www.hanako.co.uk/History/Ryu-History.htm which has some brief information about the history of each ryu.

Another best bet is to talk to the man himself ( Paul Richardson ) to whom is a very knowledgeable man about the history of the Bujinkan ryuha.

He may also want to refer to this (recent) thread http://www.martialtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27220 I think Paul made some things very clear in that thread that may be related to this one.

Near the bottom, there are links for the 9 ryu.

Just so you know, MrH, not all the information in those links is completely accurate.

To give but one example, the link on Togakure Ryu claims that there are no written records corroborating the existence of Nishina Daisuke. Several times on e-budo, Don has cited an old record referenced by Koyama Ryutaro (entitled the Genpeiseisuiki) that disproves this claim.

Just something to take into consideration.

Thanks Heretic. I considered that... in the description of some of the ryu, it also mentions that some have not been taught by Masaaki, which I understand to be incorrect (correct me if I'm wrong!). Thats why I'm looking for multiple sources of information :)
