I've been going through some CDs of some of my older pix and found a few to share. This is crater lake Okama of Mount Zaō, which is an active volcano on Honshu Province. It is known locally as Goshiki Numa or "Five Color Lake", as the lake appears to take on different colors as the weather conditions vary. Okama is a geothermal lake...the deeper the water, the higher the water temperature.

I took the photos in October 2000 from Zaō Katta-dake (1785 meters), which is accessible by bus from May through October. These photos have not been reprocessed, the extremely high humidity in the air over Zaō made for an ethereal shoot.
