Here's a brief explanation why Taekwondo will get you beaten or killed on the streets.
No situational awareness - The first problem is the lack of situational awareness. No one's going to "fight" you. It's going to be an unexpected attack. For example, heard of this Taekwondo practitioner who...
Hey guys,
I know that there’s advice on Taekwondo workouts. As for the diet, I’m not too sure.
When it comes to the diet, what are things the TKD student should eat, the amount, and what to avoid.
I know that it may depend on the person, but as a general rule, what is best for the student...
Good Evening everyone. Here is a clip of my senior student doing our four beginner forms. I would like any feedback possible so that I can become aware of things that I'm not catching to help her improve. Thank you so much for your time!
I hope I got this in the right place.
My name is Joshua, I'm from the UK, I am a very passionate martial artist although have been out of training for some time now. I have trained in various arts such as: Muay Thai, Conventional Boxing, Taekwondo and Jeet Kune Do (my main love haha). Also I...
I’ve only recently started my karate training, earning my 6th kyu, but I have my first dan in tangsoo do and gongkwon yusul and my 2nd dan in TKD. I love using axe kicks in Taekwondo sparring but since transitioning to shotokan karate I notice no one throws it. So really my question is in...
What's up. I'm a 3rd Dan in World TaeKwonDo. I've been working on my boxing/kickboxing at my local gym. Although it's apparent that I am not a Thai Boxer, I enjoy sparring with KB/Muay Thai/Sanda rules and I see that TKD in fact works when used correctly against these guys.
I want to...
So, I am new to TaeKwonDo.
I am looking to have a mature and NON heated discussion on the aspect of saying "Sir" to everything and the tenets of respect for elders and parents....
I joined to build a confidence in my self defense abilities as a woman and citizen. I like the tenets about...
I've heard of allegations of sexual misconduct against Jean Lopez for many years, but not Steven. With this USA Today piece, it seems that they are being taken seriously, now. I don't know if these allegations are true. But I think they need to be investigated.
Lopez brothers, Olympic taekwondo...
Is Karate a martial art, or just a name for martial arts of certain origin? I ask the same question of Taekwondo, Jiujitsu, Akido, or any other name that encompasses multiple styles of fighting. When you say "I practice Taekwondo" or "I practice Hapkido", what are you really saying?
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right spot so let me know if this is the wrong place to ask this.
I'm not an expert in martial arts (I'm pretty much a total novice) but I always wanted to know if a offensive-based martial art, like Karate and Taekwondo, is capable of lasting or even...
I have been training in Taekwondo for a decade now, and in my time I have had the pleasure of training with a multitude of people from different backgrounds. Many of which have been seniors to me. However, I've noticed from most of them, a certain trait that was very appealing. They all seemed...
Just checking to see if anyone on here will be attending the 50th Anniversary of Rhee Ki Ha arriving in the U.K? This will be held on 2nd July as that's when he arrived here 50 years ago.
If you're not sure who he is, he was the first person to be promoted to 9th Degree by our Founder and now...
Hi all!
I wanna share with you a great news. This year my club where I train is celebrating it's first birth year.
We strongly grown and learned a lot. We conquered our fears and weaknesses, perfecting technique, successfully participated in international competitions and the judges were fair...
Does anyone have the written instructions for the new Kukkiwon competition poomsae (Himchari, Bigak, etc.)? Want to try them myself but I think it'll be easier for me to learn from instructions rather than a really fast video.
Can anyone tell me anything about these concepts, they seem like grappling/grabbing techniques.
I've got a digital student handbook so I'm sure it doesn't explain things as well, plus my master doesn't really go over this, but I'm loving taekwondo so far.
I've got a concept of a basic throw...
I've been training in ITF Tae Kwondo for a while and will be grading for my blue belt this week. I was just wondering what opinions are of training in both Tae Kwondo and Kuk Sool Won as I have found a very good school in my area for this.
Does anyone have any tips for learning (and remembering) Korean terms and theory for TKD?
Anyone use flash cards, pin them somewhere they will see them every day, go through patterns and state what each move is your doing in Korean?
Hello,
In two days I have a Taekwondo Championship, and before it starts everyone will be weighed in order to see if everyone matches the weight group that they have applied for. I am in the 58 weight group, but today I found out that I am 59.6, is there a way to lose the extra weight quick...
I really like multi purpose drills and try to incorporate variety in class to disguise repetition.
This is a drill I do to help students improve leg strength, actively stretch and work on improving their pendulum & pivot kicks. For sparring it add power to the lead round kick.
I use a variety of drills to help my students improve their leg strength and condition the hip muscles.
Thought i'd share this one and would be interested to see what other instructors do.
In Chapter 1, Section 4 of Kang Won Sik and Lee Kyong Myong’s “A History of Modern Taekwondo,” there is detail about a “Yun Moo” demo held by Yoon Byung In’s YMCA Kwon Bup Bu (Changmoo Kwan) on June 24, 1949. According to the book's account, “PARK Chul Hee demonstrated the "Jak Do Kwon", PARK...
I am just wondering what the different kwans of taekwondo are and how they differ from each other.
I practice Chung Do Kwan taekwondo. My dojang has heavy emphasis on kicking but hand techniques are used in conjunction with the kicking; for example, our dojangs signature sparring move is a mid...
My school teaches traditional Tae Kwon Do, we use the Ch'ang Hon family for forms (Chon-ji to Chong-moo, Kwang-gae to Tong-il) except I noticed that my instructor teaches them slightly diffenrent than the ITF. We are not ITF affiliated. The difference is that the ITF turns counter-clockwise...
