Just found out that one of my students is moving with her mother to Japan while her American father stays here. In March.

I'm a bit depressed about this.

Opportunities for her to succeed in martial arts in traditional Japan will not be easy. To see the family split will also be painful but life goes on.

Blah.

We are renegade Hwarang, so ... if anyone knows someone in Japan ...

Wish I did no someone in Japan that could help but, sorry, I do not.

Sorry to hear about the family split.

Why will it be hard for her to get into a school in Traditional Japan?

And on a better note CONGRATULATIONS on getting hired

Very sorry to hear this. It is so easy to take this onto yourself because of the sensei sudent relationship.

It is. Is there a second part to this question?

It seems the patriarchal society is still alive and kicking, so to speak, in Japan. Her mother informed me that judo is a middle-school sport that all *male* students learn in P.E. class. Girls not allowed. I was surprised at this given a few high-ranking females in the Kodokan.

Apparently it's still rare (?) for females to learn martial arts in Japan. I can't anticipate her happiness.
