Hi, everyone, just popped in to say Hi, so Hi.
51 and feeling every year of it.
Started training in American Kenpo 4 years ago.
We are a small club in th UK.
Train every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Had one hip replaced, the other will be done soon and got a dodgy kneee.

Our club concentrates on being physically fit.
Most of us do circuits just before we train.
We do a lot of boxing training and hit each othey quite hard.
We had one person that started traing with us, after breaking a rib he found he had weak bones, osteopenia I think.

He wants to carry on training but wants a protective vest.
It needs to be small so his movement is not restrictive.
It must also protect his rib cage all the way around.

Anybody know of anything suitable.

Please only relevant replies.
I know elbows and not getting hit are the best option, but with the best wil in the world, if you train in the Martial Arts, you get hit.

Thanks Pat

It's not cheap -- but I've heard good things about Tony Blauer's High Gear line of armor.

But I'm going to caution you -- the best stuff still lets a fair amount of force and energy through. I'd really encourage careful assessment with the guidance of a doc. The simple fact is that if your friend has weak bones, contact may be a bad idea.

Very valid point. One of the students where I train is also my mother. She has quite a few physical issues....joints, fragility, etc. so when we train with her we just lighten it up. She still gets the same techniques but, not as hard. It actually makes you work more your control and ranging. All of which makes you improve and allows a student with some restrictions to improve as well.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply.
We are usaully very carefull and do adjust with whoever is in front of us.
The protective gear would be more of a "just in case" precaution, and to give him the confidence to come back.
There are 5 of us in the club that basically hit each other quite hard, some would say very hard.
We train with younger people and Women, we have to ease back with them.

I think the Tony Baur is a little to expensive for Him, but thanks anyway.

Anything effective is going to be somewhat expensive. A less costly option might be a basic TKD style hogu or chest protector.
