June 26, July 3 & 4: SoCal Japanese Cultural Events

I don't know if any of you are near the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, but this weekend and next are a couple of Japanese cultural center events. Not sure what the schedule is for M.A. demos.

Valley Japanese Community Center hosts Annual Obon Festival on June 26 & 27, 2010 5PM-10PM at 8850 Lankershim Blvd, Sun Valley, CA. Delicious ethnic foods. Demonstrations of Judo, Karate, Kendo and Tea Ceremony will be held. Festival-type games, calligraphy/Sumi-E exhibits, LA Matsuri Taiko will give a special performance on Saturday.PMX Cosplay contest on Saturday.Bon Odori dances afterward. Next weekend, 4th of July weekend, is the SF Valley Japanese American Community Center event. It's Saturday and Sunday, July 3 & 4. I didn't see much info on the event, but it's similar to Sun Valley. Here's a link to their site.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but there are events like this throughout the Summer in Southern California at various community centers and churches/temples.

Nisei Week in August is a big one. It's actually not just a week. Here's a link if anyone is interested.
