3. a theory that a nation, region, or political system is exceptional and does not conform to the norm

Interesting POV... however it could also be that the rest of the world watched because they simply did not care since it did not directly affect them in any way.

Not everybody on the planet thinks like Americans and not everybody on the planet looks at a problem and say...hmmmmmm...what would the Americans do

And there are many in the world that currently feel what he is calling exceptionalism here is what they call Imperialism
