    Lots. But I've had studded snow tires, and short of chains, they're the best you can get. The downside: a lot of municipalities have banned them for chewing up and spitting out thousands of miles of roadway. If these retractable studded versions prove fully automatic as promised, the laws might change to allow them. The problem with standard studded tires is that folks just forget to change them once when winter's over, or can't be bothered.123
